Dental Advisory have noticed that there have been recent publications from different organisations with calls for GDC to bring forward summative assessment for overseas qualified clinicians who wish to register as DCPs in the UK (similar to ORE or LDS). This may or may not come into place, however, we do believe that any overseas clinicians intending to practice in the UK should become “Safe Beginner*”. For this purpose, we strongly recommend all overseas qualified clinicians wishing to register as DCPs to have elaborate “back to practice” training to fully understand and appreciate GDC standards, Dental Hygienist Scope of Practice, UK working ways, as well as being able to perform adequately in the UK general dental practice (diagnose, treat and refer periodontal and peri-implant disease successfully).
It is recommended to meet those requirements by completing interactive, well-designed and delivered CPDs in the midst of like-minded professionals which encourages learning by peer to peer feedback, discussions as well as didactic teaching and practical (hands-on) workshops rather than some tick box exercise.
This training is suitable for:
1) Overseas Dentists who have submitted their application to register as Dental Hygienist or Therapist and are waiting for their decisions.
2) Overseas Dentists who received their decision letter (rejection) from the GDC, and are looking to fulfil the deficiencies.
3) Overseas Dentists who are already registered and would like to gain knowledge and skills to start working or refresh their skills.
4) Overseas Hygienist or Therapist who would like to submit their new application to register with the GDC, and all the above.
This training is NOT SUITABLE if:
You are an Overseas Dentist trying to submit a new application to register as Hygienist or Therapist, ie., if you have not already applied to register as a DCP. The route to register for Overseas Dentist as Hygienist/ Therapist is closed since 8 March 2023.
Dental Hygienist Therapist Back To Practice Course
This course will have 4 distinct phases
Phase one (Optional) Self-directed Learning
Phase one will be self-directed learning to understand the basic science and evidence of the complex disease process and its management in clinical settings.
There will also be a significant non-clinical aspect such as how to work as a part of the team, appreciate each team members’ scope of practice and to understand how UK dentistry operates.
Phase two (optional) Online Learning Platform Access
Phase two will work on various online content to bring you up to date with current clinical practice as well as other topics such as cross-infection control, radiology, data protection, working with vulnerable groups etc. You will also receive access to our learning platform where a huge number of CPDs are available. These are particularly useful if you are applying to get registered as DH or DT.
(If you choose not to gain access to our online platform, your course fee will be reduced from £1500 to £1100! This is a new model we have just introduced, particularly to help those colleagues who have already done extensive online learning and now want to focus on face to face training to take their learning to the next stage.)
Phase three Face to Face Practical Training (1 week, Monday to Friday)
Phase three of the course will be a week-long residential section where you will be assessed on everything you have learnt so far. There will be mixture of workshops, group work, role playing, task based learning and hands-on practical sessions to learn and master the skills required to practice as a star hygienist!
You will have plenty of opportunity to use various kind of ultrasonic scalers, hand instruments (both Gracey’s and Universals ) and air polishing devices.
Each student will have one station dedicated to them (not 10-15 mins of sharing practical component) and we will have multiple tutors on the day to assist you on your learning process.
Phase four Mentorship and Support (6 months after the course)
Phase four of the course is a 6 month long mentorship and support we provide you following the course. This will be supported by our clinical and non-clinical team members based on your requirements.
This is particularly useful to help you settle on your new job. You don't understand something, we are here to guide you properly in what you need to do next.

Granted in One Attempt
I am Hala, an overseas dentist from Libya. I applied for dental hygienist registration with GDC last year and I am so so happy my application was granted in one attempt. I also got my GDC number in December last year and i’ve been working as Hygienist since then. I would like to thank my advisor for his help with my application & documentation I needed. Thank you for being so concerned always about my application during the process and handling my enquiries even during weekend and nights and always being there for me. I recommend Avi and the Dental Hygienist Advisory Board team with a pleasure.

Helped with GDC Rejection
I'm an overseas dentist from Iraq and wanted to register as a Dental Hygienist in the UK. I had applied to the GDC but got rejected, that's when I started to look for some support and found Dental Hygienist Advisory Board through recommendation. The response from them was so fast and comforting which was so much-needed due to the limited time to re-apply to GDC without any additional fees. Avi and his team helped me step by step to fulfil all the deficiencies from the rejection and directed me to the right path. Shortly after, I got a positive decision from the GDC. I got help and support throughout the process of registration and even after I've got my registration with GDC.

Exemplary - In one word
In one word, I would describe the services provided by Avi and his team as exemplary. The help I received to put together my application was enormous starting from the very first phonecall during which Avi touched on even the smallest detail regarding the application process which was instrumental in me taking an informed decision on whether or not to take up this task. Once you decide to embark on this journey, then guidance and assistance is provided at each and every step in the form of a message or call. With God's grace, Avi's support I was able to got registered as both Dental hygienist and therapist in 4 months time and in the first attempt itself. What surprised me the most is even after you get registered, Avi's team continues to extend their support to help you get back to practice by recommending courses to polish your skills and take up the new role with expertise and confidence. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who decides to get registered in the UK as either a dental hygienist / therapist.
