Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists undergo extensive training to collaborate with dentists in providing patient care and contributing to treatment plans. Many dental professionals are dual-qualified as both hygienists and therapists, playing a crucial role in dental healthcare.

The General Dental Council (GDC) guidelines, outlined in Section 36 (C) of the Dentists Act 1984, permit BS Dental Technology graduates from Pakistan to register as Dental Hygienists & Therapists after an individual assessment.

GDC registration equips BSc Dental Technology graduates from Pakistan with a thorough understanding of NHS rules, regulations, complaints handling procedures, and dental software, placing them in a favourable position.

The Dental Hygienists focus on preventive dental health and treating gum disease, emphasising correct care to ensure the maintenance of strong teeth and gums. Additionally, Dental Therapists, in addition to dental hygienist responsibilities, can perform certain dental procedures traditionally carried out by dentists. This includes tasks such as fillings, extracting deciduous teeth, placing preformed crowns on baby teeth, and utilising dental materials akin to those used by dentists.
